Top applicants to receive opportunities to collaborate with LG Energy Solution, such as joint R&D and equity investment

Need-based applications across six areas open until June 30, while Open Topic applications open until December 31

SEOUL, May 12, 2025 – LG Energy Solution has announced the launch of its OSS (Open Submission for Startup), an open call program for startups with high potential, with applications now open.

The OSS is designed to foster technical collaboration with startups across various fields on an ongoing basis. Proposals will be matched with relevant research departments within LG Energy Solution and thoroughly reviewed. Based on the outcomes of technical evaluations (Proof-of-Concept), participants could be offered collaboration opportunities such as joint research and development projects, equity investment, and more. Any startups around the globe with strong expertise and innovative technology in the energy sector are encouraged to apply. Eligibility will be expanded to include SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) and large corporations in the second half of 2025.

The company is now accepting two types of submissions: Need-based OSS and Open Topic OSS. Need-Based OSS targets projects aligned with LG Energy Solution’s internal needs across six areas: Materials, Cell, Cell Process, Pack, BMS, and System, with submissions due  by June 30. Open-Topic OSS welcomes outstanding ideas on any topic, with a submission deadline of December 31.

Applications for OSS can be submitted through BRIDGE (https://bridge.lgensol.com/), LG Energy Solution’s online open innovation project management platform. BRIDGE is an integrated, interactive system that facilitates collaborations between academia and industry, enabling participants to manage goals and deliverables.

“Open Innovation is crucial to our business strategy and to realizing groundbreaking ideas and technologies that deliver real impact,” said Je-Young Kim, CTO of LG Energy Solution. “We are more committed than ever to advancing innovation in the industry through collaborations with various influential partners.”

Meanwhile, LG Energy Solution runs several other open innovation programs to connect with experts across various fields, discover novel ideas, and support commercialization. For example, the company hosts the biennial international startup competition Battery Challenge to foster the growth of startups with innovative ideas, and funds cutting-edge research at universities and labs through the Battery Innovation Contest (BIC).

Through these initiatives, LG Energy Solution not only supports its partners’ growth but also aims to pioneer next-generation technologies and cement its battery leadership.
