For the second year running, LG Energy Solution (LGES) claimed 1st place in the CSR index for the battery industry at the 14th Blue Book of Corporate Social Responsibility Launch Conference & 2022 China ESG Winter Summit, which were held from November 20-21.
The Blue Book of Corporate Social Responsibility, which has become China’s most influential and respected CSR indicator, is released every year by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences at the China Social Responsibility 100 Forum.
LGES received the highest scores in environmental responsibility, social responsibility and governance responsibility to take the overall top spot among the entire battery industry, an acknowledgment of its contributions to sustainable development and green manufacturing as an industry leader that leads by example.
The company also released the “LG Energy Solution (China) ESG Report” to take the next step in its goal of ‘contributing to a more beautiful future.’ This report was published to elaborate on the medium- and long-term roadmaps LGES has established based on one of its most important goals, the ‘Achievement of RE100.’
Here are some of the diverse activities LGES has been undertaking to realize its environment, social and governance goals.
For environmental management, LGES has actively pursued RE100 across the three factories it operates in Nanjing, China. These facilities are set to transform into ‘Net Zero’ factories by 2025, which means they will use 100% eco-friendly energy through green initiatives like solar power generation programs that utilize various spaces within the factory to install solar panels and generate renewable energy to cover their electricity consumption.
For social responsibility, LGES has been dedicated to nurturing the industry’s talent for years, contributing to social and public development while supporting China’s science and technology field. For example, LGES holds ‘Battery Innovation Contest for University Students’ annually to inspire and discover young talented people to give them the opportunity to become exceptional professionals that will lead the future battery sector.
For governance system, LGES’s ESG Committee, founded in 2021, has been working tirelessly to build a more complete ESG management process throughout the battery value chain. Thanks to this experienced team of experts, LGES enhanced its Code of Conduct for Suppliers to promote awareness and urge actions of each and every supplier on human rights and labor issues as well as the purchase of responsible minerals.
As an industry leader, LGES aims to provide its global customers with value that goes beyond the excellence of its technologies and product quality, and will continue to strive to make the world a better place to live as an ESG leader for today and tomorrow.
