LG Energy Solution Demonstrates Future-Ready Energy Storage Leadership at ees Europe 2025

  • LG Energy Solution delivers innovative grid-scale, UPS, and home battery solutions to Europe’s largest batteries and ESS exhibition.
  • Boasting European production capabilities and readiness to regulatory requirements, the company intrigues visitors with reliable solutions for the ever-evolving energy landscape.

From May 5 to 7, ees Europe 2025 brought the global energy storage community to Messe Munchen, Germany. As Europe’s premier international exhibition for batteries and energy storage systems (ESS), it showcased cutting-edge innovations from many of the world’s leading battery makers. Part of the larger Smarter E Europe tradeshow this year, ees Europe was one of four renowned energy exhibitions to be hosted here at the same time, making Munich the epicenter of energy innovation, if only for a brief but powerful moment.

This year’s Smarter E Europe attracted 2,737 exhibitors from 57 countries, spanning the batteries and ESS, renewable energy, charging infrastructure and e-mobility, and energy management sectors. Around 107,000 visitors from 157 nations gathered to connect and experience the meaningful innovation shaping their industry.

In line with the main theme ‘Empower Every Possibility, Empower Whenever You Need,’ LG Energy Solution emphasized its commitment to providing stable and sustainable energy – anytime, anywhere. Over the three-day event, the company highlighted its European localization strategy, local production capabilities, and preparedness to meet the continent’s regulatory requirements.

LG Energy Solution’s Wroclaw plant in Poland is in the process of setting up dedicated ESS production lines, which will start producing later this year, making it the only ESS manufacturer to produce everything from cells to systems within Europe. “Combining our local European production capabilities with local partnerships, we have tremendous confidence in our ability to cater to the needs of every European customer,” said a representative from LG Energy Solution.

The 290 m2 (3,121. 5ft²) booth – 11% larger than last year’s – displayed a range of distinctive solutions, from grid-scale batteries to advanced UPS batteries and home batteries.

In the grid-scale batteries zone, LG Energy Solution showcased its next-generation grid-scale LFP ESS product – a highly integrated DC System built into a 20-foot container, entirely manufactured in Europe, from battery cells to the system. It utilizes the JF2S cell produced at the company’s Wroclaw facility, which provides 2.7 times more energy density than the JF1 cell – its predecessor, and an ultra-long lifespan of up to 15,000 cycles.

The JF2S Pack features a stackable design that combines three modules into a single unit, reducing the space between packs that typically occurs in rack assembly. This allows more packs to be installed within a limited space, greatly increasing energy density over previous versions.

Between cells is a thermal barrier to enhance safety and each module is fitted with a liquid cooling plate on the bottom to effectively manage battery heat.

“I was amazed by the dimensions of the pouch cell,” said Lukas Hienle, a PhD student at Ulm University of Applied Sciences (THU). “I’ve never seen such a large-scale pouch cell even though I’m a researcher at Ulm University’s battery lab.”

In the home batteries zone, the JF1R & JF1 stackable battery series were on show, produced in Europe to guarantee faster delivery, reliable supply, and full compliance with EU quality standards.

The series’ plug-and-play system allows a single technician to install the device in just 10 minutes. Utilizing the company’s proprietary SoX algorithm, these home batteries provide industry-leading precision in estimating the state-of-charge, ensuring dependable and stable performance. The products also come with a 15-year warranty.

Shifting focus to the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) batteries zone, LG Energy Solution demonstrated its commitment to meeting the increasing demands of IT infrastructures like AI data centers. With high energy density and output, LG Energy Solution’s UPS solution can save space while maximizing backup capacity.

Delivered pre-assembled, the UPS system not only cuts installation time but also transportation and setup expenses. Its self-powered Switching Mode Power Supply (SMPS) enables the Battery Management System (BMS) and Battery Protection Unit (BPU) to operate independently, which means they don’t rely on external power sources.

The company also revealed a pilot version of its Battery Passport in a preemptive response to the EU Battery Regulation (2023/1542), which will mandate its use starting February 2027. A Battery Passport offers a digital record containing comprehensive data throughout the entire battery value chain, including sustainability metrics and general battery information, to promote greater transparency, traceability, and accountability while reducing environmental impact.

The company will also build and manage a Battery Regulation Management (BRM) system to collect data and share it with customers and stakeholders efficiently.

Over the course of the three days, LG Energy Solution’s booth and innovative solutions attracted praise from visitors. “The way LG Energy Solution’s products are arranged within a large open space makes it easily accessible and appealing to visitors,” said one guest.

They also recognized the company’s technology leadership. “The battery industry is so exciting right now. With more data centers being built and new regulations on the horizon, a lot is changing,” said Gizem Okut, an event promoter who worked with LG Energy Solution at ees Europe. “I’m thrilled to see these innovations in person, especially the grid-scale all-in-one solution that leads in energy density and minimizes the eco footprint. I believe that LG Energy Solution is leading the battery industry.”
