SEOUL, April 5, 2025 – LG Energy Solution Arizona today hosted an event to provide construction updates to major local stakeholders and to celebrate the opening of the workforce training center for future battery professionals in the community.
Attendees included Richard Ra, President of LG Energy Solution Arizona; Sandra Watson, President and CEO of Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA); Danny Seiden, President and CEO of Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry; Mike Goodman and Jeff Serdy, Supervisors of Pinal County; Julia Wheatley, Mayor of Queen Creek, along with other representatives of the state government and the local community.
At the event, Richard Ra, President of LG Energy Solution Arizona, announced the construction of the cylindrical battery facility is now about halfway complete, with the aim to start sample production in the middle of next year and commercial production by the year-end.
The company has also recently started training its launch team members at the new workforce training center, which was established under Arizona’s Future48 Workforce Accelerator program, in partnership with the Arizona Commerce Authority, Pinal County, and Central Arizona College. “By 2027, we will create 1,500 new employment opportunities overall, significantly thriving the local economy and further cementing Arizona’s growing reputation as a hub for advanced manufacturing,” said Richard Ra.
As LG Energy Solution’s first cylindrical battery plant in the U.S., the Arizona facility demonstrates significant growth momentum for LG Energy Solution, a global battery manufacturer boasting over 20 years of experience in North America. The opening of the plant in Arizona follows the successful operation of its first stand-alone facility in Holland, Michigan, which delivers pouch-type batteries for renowned automakers in North America. LG Energy Solution also has several joint venture facilities with prominent automakers that are currently operating or under construction in the U.S.
Now with its new U.S. production hub for cylindrical batteries, LG Energy Solution is expanding its presence in the U.S. by delivering its state-of-the-art cylindrical batteries made by local battery workforce to automakers diversifying their electric vehicle (EV) lineups to meet various consumer needs. The company recently secured a series of supply 2 agreements with leading automakers for its 46-Series cylindrical batteries that will be manufactured in Arizona. The facility is also positioned to meet the growing demand from other U.S. automakers for “Made in America” batteries.
Moreover, by hiring and training the next-generation of battery professionals locally, LG Energy Solution aims to contribute to building a local battery ecosystem that encompasses not just manufacturing but also hiring local workforce and reinforcing the partnership with regional communities.
“Thanks to the support from the state and local partners, our Arizona facility is now preparing for a successful completion, stepping up our commitment to localizing operations and charging the future of electrification hand in hand with our partners and employees,” said Richard Ra. “We look forward to a continued partnership for the facility’s stable operation, as this project goes beyond simply constructing a plant; we actively support developing regional talent through high-quality training programs, empowering them to become future battery professionals who will contribute to U.S. electrification with our innovative power solutions.”
