- LG Energy Solution Michigan’s facility strengthens workforce and upskills talent through strategic public-private partnerships
- Seeking military veterans and graduates to address the EV talent shortage
To unlock greater innovation and future opportunities, targeted recruitment programs and strategic partnership play an invaluable role by accelerating the development of the EV industry. With its expertise in advanced battery technology, LG Energy Solution Michigan fully understands the critical link between the expansion of its workforce and continued success. So, in response to growing demand, the company is bolstering its recruitment and training efforts through the Talent Acquisition Team (TAT) EV program.
The TAT EV initiative is part of a larger initiative by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and West Michigan Works! (WMW), designed to address Michigan’s shortage of talent in the EV industry. MEDC, which provides business support and capital programs to facilitate growth, and WMW, which identifies local employers’ talent needs and helps job seekers acquire the required skills, are major players in this effort. As part of this initiative, LG Energy Solution Michigan is actively working to fill new production roles at its plant that makes lithium-ion batteries.
The company is now shifting its attention to the recruitment and upskilling of talent through the TAT EV program, as it prepares to meet the demands of the rapidly growing EV manufacturing sector. LG Energy Solution Michigan has enabled continued growth by successfully addressing critical production needs via strategic recruitment efforts, enlisting the help of WMW to identify and secure the region’s top talent.
Through the TAT EV program, LG Energy Solution Michigan aims to hire employees for its Holland facility by focusing its recruitment efforts on military personnel, veterans, and their spouses. The campaign’s video series, “Military Makeover – Operation Career,” presented by Montel Williams and aired on multiple channels including the American Forces Network and Lifetime Network, showcases job opportunities for service members and their families.
The TAT EV program also aligns with the “You Can In Michigan” initiative, which was established in an attempt to draw and keep skilled professionals in the “Great Lakes State.” This partnership underscores the value of public-private collaboration in resolving workforce challenges and fostering industrial growth.
Meanwhile, LG Energy Solution Michigan has been participating in other recruitment channels, such as events like Engineering Career Fairs, Industry Days and Engineering Information Sessions, as well as initiatives like the Michigander EV Scholars program which is sponsored by the TAT EV program. These crucial recruitment tools establish a closer connection between the company and high-potential engineering talent studying, or graduates of, major Michigan universities such as Grand Valley State University, the University of Michigan, and Michigan State University.
Since participating in this regional initiative, LG Energy Solution Michigan has onboarded dozens of engineers and interns at its Holland facility. Such collaborative efforts attract qualified professionals to the region, so that it can continue to produce and supply the most high-quality, sought-after power solutions.
LG Energy Solution Michigan’s recruitment drive targeting military personnel, veterans, and recent graduates highlights its strong focus on fostering a highly skilled and diverse workforce with varied perspectives, while also benefiting the local economy.
