• LG Energy Solution engages Europe’s exceptional postgraduate students with BTC in Frankfurt, sharing its goals and the career paths that will drive next-gen battery innovation.

LG Energy Solution held the “Battery Tech Conference (BTC) in Frankfurt” on June 21. As the company’s signature global recruitment event designed to attract world-class R&D talent to lead the future of battery innovation, this special European event invited CEO David Kim and the company’s executives to meet and connect with Europe’s most promising postgraduate students in science and engineering.

“The world-class capabilities of Europe’s prestigious universities in advanced research fields such as battery technology and materials science are undeniable,” said an LG Energy Solution representative. “In recognition of this, we have brought our BTC to Europe for the first time, with the expectation that talented individuals recruited through this event will play a crucial role in advancing our technology leadership.”

Around 25 master’s and Ph.D. candidates from elite institutions such as Imperial College London, the University of Oxford, ETH Zurich, University College London, and EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne) attended the conference. Over two days, they gained valuable insights into LG Energy Solution’s R&D efforts, career opportunities, and overarching strategic direction.

To underscore the event’s significance, key LG Energy Solution executives, including CEO David Kim, CTO Je Young Kim, CDO (Chief Digital Officer) Jin Kyu Lee, and CHO (Chief Human Resources Officer) Kisu Kim, attended in person. They introduced the company’s technology leadership, future business strategy, and career paths to a promising and diverse group of postgraduate students.

Participants had the opportunity to present their research and discuss emerging scientific trends through poster sessions and presentations on technology. In return, LG Energy Solution showcased its latest cutting-edge battery technologies and shared more details about its most groundbreaking ongoing projects.

As part of the conference, CEO David Kim shared his career journey during the “CEO Career Story” talk, from earning a Ph.D. in materials engineering to joining LG Energy Solution’s R&D department, leading a business division, shaping corporate strategy, and ultimately becoming CEO. He also highlighted the growth potential of research-driven careers and shared his mission for the future.

“Opportunities to engage with Korean companies in Europe through recruitment events or technical exchanges have been few and far between, so BTC provided a meaningful opportunity to learn more about LG Energy Solution’s mission and technological capabilities,” said one attendee. “I really felt the company’s sincerity and genuine interest in me and my fellow students.”

Outside Germany, LG Energy Solution has been running various initiatives to bring incredible talent to the company. In the U.S., the company is expanding its engagement with local talent by supporting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and participating in career fairs. In Poland, it is fostering the next generation of battery experts through academic-industry partnerships and internship programs.
