On September 19, 2025, LG Energy Solution, as a key partner, was asked to help launch the construction of PGE (Polska Grupa Energetyczna)’s large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Zarnowiec, Poland. Scheduled to be fully operational in the second quarter of 2027, PGE’s facility will deliver approximately 262 MW of output and store up to 981 MWh of energy.
PGE, Poland’s state-owned energy company, has called the project the largest of its kind in the nation, with an estimated investment of PLN 1.5 billion (USD 412 million). This represents a significant, strategic step toward shaping a more modern, resilient, and flexible energy future for the country.
Every battery supplied for the project will be produced locally at LG Energy Solution’s Wroclaw plant in Biskupice Podgorne, Poland. This reflects an unwavering commitment to supporting Poland’s energy transition through domestic manufacturing and technology leadership. It also reinforces the stability and independence of Europe’s battery supply chain.

The first large-scale BESS project to be undertaken by the PGE Group will be located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, near its planned offshore wind farms and adjacent to Poland’s largest pumped-storage power plant in Zarnowiec. PGE Energia Odnawialna, which operates the power plant, is overseeing the project’s implementation.
The initiative has received Poland’s first official energy storage commitment and holds a grid connection agreement with the national power system. Furthermore, the Zarnowiec Energy Storage project has secured a 17-year capacity market contract, effective from 2029, and PGE has applied for financial support through the National Recovery Plan (KPO).
“The Zarnowiec energy storage facility is being built to address the economic challenges facing Poland and wider Europe,” said Jangha Lee, President of LG Energy Solution Wroclaw. “We are proud that this project is grounded in the principle of local production. All infrastructure and grid connection work will be carried out by Polish contractors, and the entire value chain relies on domestic resources and expertise. We share the government’s goal of Poland achieving its 2030 renewable energy targets, and both this project and our battery plant in Wroclaw will be instrumental in achieving them.”
“This essential partnership ensures that all batteries for this facility will be made inside our borders, at LG Energy Solution’s Wroclaw plant,” said Dariusz Marzec, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. “This project is not just an investment in Poland’s energy transition – it’s a major boost for the domestic economy, creating new job opportunities and advancing local technological expertise.”
