- LG Energy Solution participated in Interbattery 2024, solidifying its technology leadership.
- Taking up the largest space among all exhibitors at the venue, LG Energy Solution showcased innovative technologies aimed at fostering a sustainable future.
From March 6 to 8, the Korean Battery Industry Association (KBIA)’s InterBattery 2024 convention brought together nearly 600 major players from the rechargeable battery manufacturing, material, equipment, and component sectors. Over this three-day period, well-known exhibition welcomed more than 70,000 visitors, reflecting the widespread interest in the battery industry and a nod to its importance in future mobility.
Within the four walls of Seoul’s Convention and Exhibition Center (COEX), LG Energy Solution took center stage by showcasing its distinctive technological progress while reaffirming its commitment to excellence and demonstrating its evolving role as a world-leading battery innovator.
In line with the core theme of ‘Beyond Batteries,’ LG Energy Solution highlighted its impressive technological leadership across 540-square-meter of floor space, the largest booth across the entire venue. It was meticulously organized into several zones: Mobility, IT & New Applications, Core Technology, New Business, and Sustainability.
This year, LG Energy Solution debuted its groundbreaking pouch-type CTP technology, which was presented on a mock-up of a car, offering visitors a glimpse of its new battery technology in its actual size and appearance.
LG Energy Solution’s pouch-type CTP technology’s unique features, such as advanced cell control and venting technology, secure a foothold in the market. Its technology is competitive in terms of energy density supported by high space and weight efficiency, surpassing other form factors. Also, by reducing the number of components required to assemble the pack and streamlining the manufacturing process, LG Energy Solution has not only lowered production costs but also enhanced its price competitiveness.
One of the main highlights of the Mobility zone was the Isuzu ELF mioEV truck, which marks the vehicle maker’s entry into the electric commercial vehicle market. The light-duty electric truck, an important addition to the commercial vehicle market’s traditional heavyweight’s lineup, is equipped with LG Energy Solution’s cells, modules, packs, and BMS. It’s also the first model to feature both cylindrical packs and BMS technology from LG Energy Solution.
In the Core Technology zone, the exhibition also presented JF1 DC-Link, the first product in LG Energy Solution’s standardized LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) power grid ESS (Energy Storage System) lineup, and enblock S, a new residential ESS product. Advanced battery technologies such as solid-state batteries, lithium-sulfur batteries, and lithium-metal batteries were also introduced, highlighting LG Energy Solution’s diverse product portfolio and technological capabilities ranging from high-performance premium to entry-level batteries.
Additionally, LG Energy Solution introduced its Battery Management Total Solution (BMTS) initiative, showcasing a strategic shift beyond traditional battery manufacturing. It aims to provide customers with new experiences and value propositions by offering comprehensive solutions for battery management, reflecting LG Energy Solution’s commitment to continuous innovation and customer-centric approaches.
In the IT & New Application zone, a small new pouch-type cell incorporating mid-nickel (Mid-Ni) for greater cost competitiveness was introduced for the first time. The mid-nickel Pure NCM technology especially was a big hit at the show, taking home the ‘Best Innovator Award’ at the InterBattery Awards Ceremony. The cutting-edge battery incorporates mid-nickel (NCM613) material for operation at high voltages as well as a single-crystal cathode material to ensure the long-term durability of the electrode in high-voltage environments. This configuration is commonly utilized in affordable laptops.
Moreover, the ‘anode laser etching technology,’ recipient of Interbattery’s ‘Best Automation Solution Innovation Award,’ represented a step forward for the small pouch-type segment. This groundbreaking technique is the first in the world to apply laser technology to coat cathodes in small pouches, effectively mitigating the swelling phenomena to elevate quality, stability and reliability.
Inside the popular Sustainability zone, LG Energy Solution presented its ESG management approach as a leading advocate for an eco-friendly battery industry through sustainable value creation.
In the New Business zone, several innovative ventures were introduced including AVEL’s renewable energy grid integration management, KooRoo’s Battery Swapping Station (BSS) for electric motorcycles, and the B-Lifecare comprehensive diagnosis service for EV batteries.
A gateway to the future of the battery industry, this year’s InterBattery event offered visitors a unique opportunity to witness LG Energy Solution’s unrivaled technological leadership firsthand, in the form of its most innovative products to date.
