LG Energy Solution Wroclaw Holds Panel Discussion to Build a More Inclusive Future for Women in STEM

  • To mark International Women in Engineering Day, LG Energy Solution Wroclaw and its academic partners hosted a panel discussion featuring experts from science, business, and education.
  • Through the “Empower Women in Science & Innovation” panel discussion, the company reinforced its commitment to fostering diversity in the next generation of engineering talent.

At LG Energy Solution Wroclaw, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are core values that guide efforts to build a sustainable future. As part of this commitment, LG Energy Solution Wroclaw held a panel discussion on June 19 to mark the 13th annual International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) in partnership with the Academic Business Incubator of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology and the Center for Knowledge Transfer at SWPS University.

Under the title “Empower Women in Science & Innovation,” the discussion brought together speakers from academia, business, and industry at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology to explore how to create more open environments for women in engineering and technical fields.

Panel speakers included:

  • Dr. Magdalena Worsa-Kozak, President of the Polish Association of Hydrogeologists and co-founder of the Women in Mining Poland association, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology
  • Dr. Eng. Weronika Urbanska, Senior Mission Engineer for Extremo Technologies’ Space Volcanic Algae experiment, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology
  • Dr. Habil. Anna Jarzab, immunologist at the Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy, Polish Academy of Sciences

During the discussion, participants highlighted barriers women face in science and engineering, including often-unrecognized organizational work, limited visibility of role models, and restricted paths to career advancement. They also emphasized the importance of collaboration among universities, businesses, public institutions, and community organizations to strengthen the pipeline for diverse talent.

The conversation was especially relevant in Poland, where women account for 43 percent of the science and engineering workforce, yet structural barriers still limit career progression and access to leadership roles. This underscores the need for workplaces and institutions that actively support diversity at every stage across recruitment, development, and promotion.

Among the panelists, Joanna Moore, Human Resources (HR) Management Team Leader at LG Energy Solution Wroclaw, explained how personal and workplace elements often shape a woman’s career and why companies have a responsibility to bring about the conditions that allow women to thrive.

“There are internal factors — courage, determination, self-confidence, the way a woman thinks about herself — and there is the external factor: the work environment,” Moore said. “The role of a good organization is to create space for development by helping employees build new skills, fostering an inclusive culture, and ensuring a safe working environment.”

The panelists agreed that gender balance alone does not define a strong team; its strength also comes from the range of disciplines and perspectives it brings together. Worsa-Kozak illustrated this through her research group, which includes geologists, roboticists, and environmental engineers at different career stages. Although they initially struggled to find a common professional language, they now work closely together.

Another point of consensus was that meaningful change requires action on several fronts at once — from shifts in individual mindset and mutual encouragement to new practices at the organizational and administrative levels. To continue the conversation, participants were invited to write down their ideas for future meetings on how to strengthen the ecosystem that supports women in engineering and science.

The “Empower Women in Science & Innovation” panel discussion reflected the participants’ shared view that future-ready teams are built on diverse backgrounds, disciplines, and perspectives. For LG Energy Solution, supporting DEI policies is an ongoing commitment rather than a one-time event. Guided by these values, the company aims to create a workplace where employees can contribute, grow, and lead regardless of gender or career path.
