Inside the Workplace Culture Initiatives Powering Employee Engagement at NextStar Energy

  • At NextStar Energy, workplace culture is closely tied to collaboration, innovation, and the people who power the company’s success every day.
  • From peer-to-peer rewards to workplace challenges, NextStar Energy is introducing new ways to keep employees engaged across its battery operations.

As NextStar Energy continues expanding its battery manufacturing operations, it also aims to create an environment of collaboration and employee growth. To support participation and teamwork, the company is investing in workplace initiatives such as recognition programs, interactive activities, and clearly defined corporate values.

The Charge Up Recognition Program is a peer-to-peer platform that allows employees to award “volt” points to colleagues who demonstrate company values, go beyond expectations, and contribute to a positive team culture. Employees can include personalized messages explaining why their nominee deserves recognition, and the points can then be redeemed for merchandise and experiences.

In its first month of spring, the program recorded more than 500 recognition engagements, reflecting strong employee participation and helping build connections across teams. Since then, additional activities such as a recent “spin the wheel” activation have given employees the opportunity to win prizes as a thank-you for actively supporting one another.

For NextStar Energy, regular appreciation serves as a way to strengthen morale and increase motivation. Initiatives such as the Charge Up Recognition Program remind employees that their contributions play an important role in the organization’s success.

To further encourage cross-functional connection, NextStar Energy also introduced the Amped Up Challenge during monthly town hall events, featuring fast-paced activities about workplace priorities such as safety, quality, teamwork, continuous improvement, and operational processes.

The first Amped Up Challenge focused on personal protective equipment (PPE), inviting participants to compete in correctly putting on safety gear as quickly as possible. For Earth Day, the challenge encouraged teams to sort recyclable materials correctly in a timed setting.

These activities turned safety training and sustainability awareness into hands-on team competitions that reinforced key company messages in a fun and collaborative learning environment. Future challenges are expected to explore battery manufacturing processes, helping employees deepen their understanding of operational workflows while promoting stronger engagement across departments.

NextStar Energy’s engagement efforts are closely connected to its broader cultural framework, centered around the company’s core values known as C-H-A-R-G-E. These values include Communication, which encourages transparent discussion; Heart, which prioritizes meaningful value for customers; Advancement, which emphasizes innovation and improvement; Respect, which fosters an inclusive workplace; Growth, which supports professional development; and Entity, which brings employees together under a shared vision. Together, they help shape a workplace culture that embodies operational excellence, employee connection, and strong collaboration.

Initiatives like the Charge Up Recognition Program and Amped Up Challenge demonstrate NextStar Energy’s commitment to investing in employee experience alongside business growth. Through recognition, value-driven participation, and interactive engagement opportunities, NextStar Energy is creating a culture that supports collaboration, continuous learning, and long-term success across the organization.
