LG Energy Solution Delivers Locally Manufactured DC-Link Units for PGE’s Zarnowiec Energy Storage Facility

  • LG Energy Solution commences on-site delivery and installation of DC-Link units for Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE), Poland’s largest energy company.
  • The locally manufactured DC-Link units support the construction of the Zarnowiec energy storage project, one of Europe’s largest grid-scale energy storage facilities.

LG Energy Solution has begun deliveries of its DC-Link containerized battery units to the Zarnowiec Energy Storage Facility in Poland, marking a major construction milestone in its partnership with Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE), Poland’s largest energy company. The units, produced at the company’s local manufacturing facility, are being installed on specially prepared foundation slabs as they arrive.

In 2025, LG Energy Solution signed an agreement with PGE to supply 981 MWh of grid-scale ESS batteries, with deliveries to be completed by 2026. The two companies are jointly developing the battery energy storage facility in Zarnowiec, which is slated to begin commercial operations in 2027. PGE Energia Odnawialna is leading the project, supported by non-repayable funding from Poland’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).

The first DC-Link units arrived at the construction site on April 13, 2026, with delivery and installation expected be completed in the third quarter of 2026. A total of 204 container units, each weighing approximately 45 tons, are being made in full compliance with the manufacturer’s quality requirements.

With an output capacity of 262 MW and storage capacity of 981 MWh, the Zarnowiec facility is set to rank among Europe’s largest battery energy storage systems. At the center of the installation is LG Energy Solution’s DC-Link technology, which integrates battery modules, liquid cooling, and independent fire protection into a single containerized unit.

LG Energy Solution produces all DC-Link units at its European manufacturing facility in Biskupice Podgorne, where the entire production process is handled from electrodes and cells to complete storage units. The units also meet the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Conformité Européenne (CE) standards required for the European market.

This end-to-end local manufacturing capability is a key part of LG Energy Solution’s “Made in Europe” strategy, which addresses growing demand from European customers and governments for domestically produced solutions. The Zarnowiec project also adds to the company’s experience in large-scale public energy infrastructure, strengthening its position in future competitive bids with state-owned energy companies across the region.

“The Zarnowiec Energy Storage is a project that truly supports the Polish economy, and there is a high level of local content in this investment,” said Krzysztof Muller, President of the Management Board of PGE Energia Odnawialna, who highlighted the project’s broader economic impact. “The batteries — the heart of the entire installation — are manufactured in Poland, and the entire project is supported by funds from the National Reconstruction Plan.”

Muller also emphasized the facility’s role in supporting Poland’s energy transition. “The construction of the Electricity Storage Facility in Zarnowiec is an important step towards increasing the flexibility of the national power system and effectively integrating renewable energy sources. The investment will strengthen our energy security and ensure stable grid operation as the use of renewable energy sources rises.”

“We are creating a complete local value chain that encompasses both technology development and production in Poland,” said Sang Hun Lee, President of LG Energy Solution Wroclaw, emphasizing the importance of establishing a fully localized production chain. “We have launched a production line for energy storage devices, built entirely locally — from electrodes and cells to complete storage units.”

The delivery and installation of DC-Link units at the Zarnowiec site demonstrate the strength of Poland’s capabilities, proving that it is possible to implement such advanced projects using local infrastructure. LG Energy Solution is dedicated to furthering its battery expertise in Poland, while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.
